Squad looks to returners to drive intensity for 2017-18 season.

They're back! After enjoying a long summer full of new found love, cabins and back yard bonfires, the Nutcrackers are lacing up the old bladed boots at Augsburg Arena and looking forward to every minute.

"We're getting older, but definitely wiser. We have just become so cunning in our breakouts and forecheck that I anticipate we'll have some real success." said veteran Liz Haakenson. Last season, Haakenson led the squad in penalty minutes and most creative language when chirping opponents. The Nutcrackers will look to her for extra spark and intimidation.

But being wise and old isn't the only thing going for the 'Cracks.

"A few of us joined Bandy and we've really been training hard with that in the off-season so I am guessing that will translate into us having some speed on the hockey side of things" said returner Jenna Christensen. [Bandy: the lesser version of ice hockey.]

Aside from the on ice developments for the squad, player-coach Jessie Doig had some thoughts on the upcoming season off-ice activities. "A few of us fell in love in the off season and I am really just hoping that doesn't translate into weak legs. We have to keep our wits about us for Christmas sake."

All in all, looks to be an exciting season for the Nutcrackers and you can be sure to find them post-game at the local watering hole or at the outdoor rink snapping clappers and dumping little high school boys over the side boards.

Additional notes:

Allie Johnson (previously Schwab) won't be joining the squad until mid season due to pregnancy reserve, which will be an early season loss for the Nutties since she led the team in both points and arguing with the ref in 2016-17.

Newcomers Mari Gunderson and Hailey Adair will be suiting up for the first time this season. Gunderson took a hiatus from hockey but is now back to giggles in the locker room and will be in the running for break-away leader. Adair is an unknown because she isn't a Gustie, but is readily accepted by the squad because they are inclusive and have been told this girl is good.
