Sydney O Keefe nails two goals as Fighting Squirrels allows few shots to get a victory on the road

Fighting Squirrels prevailed against TC Shatter 5 - 1 at Augsburg A on Sunday. Fighting Squirrels and TC Shatter both scored one goal to end the first period tied. Fighting Squirrels gained one unanswered goal in the second period to break the tie and take the lead. Fighting Squirrels's defense shut down TC Shatter for the rest of the game. In the final period Fighting Squirrels scored three goals piling on and winning the game.

In the first period, things got going when Fighting Squirrels's Sydney O Keefe got a goal with assists from Bridget Braastad and Kayla Clafton, with 16:49 left on the clock. In response, TC Shatter's Tiffany Magnuson put the puck in the net with an assist from Megan Olson, with 9:19 left in the period, to make the game tied at 1 apiece. In the second period, not standing down, Fighting Squirrels's Kathleen Anderson put the puck in the net with 5:38 left in the period. Calli Brennan got the assist on the goal, to take the lead by 1. Fighting Squirrels was ahead from then on. In the third period, picking apart the power play, Calli Brennan put the puck between the pipes with an assist from Kristina Pilot with 10:12 left in the period, going further ahead. Fighting Squirrels fired up their penalty kill game when Sydney O Keefe got an unassisted goal with 9:54 left in the period, adding to their lead. In addition, Alexandra Meyer got the puck in the goal with an assist from Kayla Clafton, with 7:44 left in the period, to pull further ahead.

Having an impact in the game, Sydney O Keefe made two goals for Fighting Squirrels. Calli Brennan scored one goal for Fighting Squirrels and also had one point. Alexandra Meyer and Kathleen Anderson each added one goal for Fighting Squirrels. Kayla Clafton had two assists. Pilot and Braastad each contributed one assist for Fighting Squirrels.

Tiffany Magnuson added one goal for TC Shatter.

Racking up saves in the box, Fighting Squirrels's Melissa Goski blocked 28 out of 29 shots on goal. TC Shatter's Meg Schmidt had just 34 saves on 39 shots.

Fighting Squirrels now has a record of 9-11. TC Shatter ended the game with a record of 5-12.
