Fighting Squirrels Wins Big Against Lions 7-1

Kelsey Abrahamson rips a hat trick and Fighting Squirrels makes forwards' life difficult to get a big win, stops string of losses

In a lopsided victory, Fighting Squirrels overcame Lions 7 - 1 at Highland Arena - South Rink on Sunday. Fighting Squirrels outscored Lions two to one to jump in to the lead at the end of the first period. Fighting Squirrels gained three goals in the second period and held on to its lead. Fighting Squirrels's defense shut down Lions for the rest of the game. In the final period Fighting Squirrels scored two goals padding its lead and winning the game.

Turning in a great performance for Fighting Squirrels, Kelsey Abrahamson scored the hat trick with three goals as well as three helpers. Fighting Squirrels's Abrahamson put the puck in the net for a shorthanded goal in the first period. Emily Haedrich assisted on this goal. Abrahamson got another goal with an assist from Maria Stoa. Abrahamson put the puck between the pipes with assists from Maria Stoa and Emily Haedrich. Fighting Squirrels's Jocelyn Kleiber scored two goals for Fighting Squirrels and also had one point. Fighting Squirrels's Kleiber put the biscuit into the net in the first period. Emily Haedrich assisted on this goal. Fighting Squirrels was now out in front for good. During the third period, Kleiber got another goal with an assist from Kelsey Abrahamson. Maria Stoa and Calli Brennan each contributed one goal for Fighting Squirrels.

Showing off a strong glove, Fighting Squirrels's Melissa Goski blocked 28 out of 29 shots on goal.

Fighting Squirrels ended their losing streak of four games and improved to a record of 8-11. Lions finished the game with a record of 4-12.
